StaffThe Bryant Mortuary has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area for over 40 years. Our founder, Mr. Ralph T. Bryant began the mortuary in response to the need for services in the African American community. As the oldest African American owned mortuary in San Francisco , The Bryant Mortuary remains owned and operated by members of Mr. Bryant's immediate family. We are comprised of a dedicated staff, whose main purpose is to ensure that families we serve are cared for in a sensitive and responsive manner.

Mr. Ralph T. Bryant
1915-1988

Mr. Ralph T. Bryant was born and raised in Oakland, California. After completing his education he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was not long until Mr. Bryant realized that his ambition was to run his own business. To achieve that goal, he left the railroad and enrolled in San Francisco College of Mortuary Science, where he graduated in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he and Mr. Randolph Osborne Sr. formed Bryant and Osborne Funeral Directors. In 1958 Mr. Bryant opened the doors of his own mortuary, The Bryant Mortuary at 635 Fulton Street in San Francisco where it remains to this day.

Mr. Bryant was a man who was a stickler for having things done in a proper and dignified manner and built a reputation for being a caring and fair man. As a result of his kindness, countless individuals and families benefited from his generosity. The values and philosophy of life that he believed to be important continue to be the foundation of The Bryant Mortuary today.
